    • On 7-11 November 2011, Prof. Georges GIRAUD (DIJON Hygher School of Agronomics - Agrifood Marketing Specialist offered a training for researchers and professors from FAVRI, CASRAD, RUDEC, Hanoi University of Agriculture, National University of Laos to teach marketing guidelines and to develop marketing plans for the followings products: 1) indigenous vegetables, 2) Phu Quoc fish sauce (NUOC MAM PHU QUOC), 3) River weed alfae (LAOS), 4) LY SON garlic 
    • Dr. Nguyen Van Bo, president of Malica delivering the Introduction speechMalica promoted a joint Workshop on Geographical Indications policies in Vietnam, co-organized by the National Office of Intellectual Property (NOIP), VAAS, IPSARD and CIRAD.  The meeting on 07.09.2011 was attended by 40 high-level participants including  the deputy Director General of NOIP, Dr. Ta Quang Minh; the deputy head of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development's Science and Technology Department, Dr. LeVan Bam;  the President of VAAS, Dr. Nguyen Van Bo;  the Director of IPSARD, Dr. Dang Kim Son, and the regional director of CIRAD, Dr. Jean-Charles Maillard.
      This meeting opened a useful space for debate on GI management and implementation. Discussions were fuelled by presentations from NOIP, CIRAD (Dr Delphine Marie-Vivien), and representatives from Yen Bai and Nam Dinh Provinces.     • On 31.08.2011, Dr Nguyen Van Bo, President of VAAS and President of MALICA Steering Committee, opened the Worskhop on Lao-Vietnam scientific exchange on food markets, giving welcome to the National University of Laos (NUOL)'s Faculty of agriculture as a new member of Malica research group.   Dr. Silinthone Sacklokham, Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, represented NUoL. NUoL and Malica partners have already collaborated in several recent research projects. Several future perspectives for joint research and trainings were underlined during this workshop.
    • Malica Training on "Trademarks, Collective trademarks, Certification Trademarks and Geographical indications", 
      A group of 15 researchers from FAVRI, CASRAD and RUDEC joined an intense one-day training on September 8 by Dr Delphine Marie-Vivien, CIRAD Intellectual Property specialist. The contents covered from Legal definitions to Case studies.

PAST EVENTS
  • Dr. Paule MOUSTIER from CIRAD, long-time MALICA researcher, has been awarded the Degree of "Habilitation à Diriger les Recherches en Économie" (Recognition as Ph.D Supervisor in Economics), on  May 3,  2011 at Montpellier University (France). Her HDR report is entitled : "Organisation and performance of agri-food value chains in Southern countries: the role of proximity".
  • Two Malica researchers have recently been awarded Post-graduate Excellence scholarships from the French Embassy in Hanoi, starting in September, 2011:
  1. DAO Duc Huân (IPSARD / RUDEC) : Ph.D Scholarship  in Economics at University of Corte on "Multiscale learning processes, economic efficiency and quality labels"
  2. NGUYEN Tiên Dinh (IPSARD / RUDEC): Master Scholarship in Economics at Toulouse University on "Diagnosis and trends of consumption of animal products in Vietnam".

  • 30.09.2010 - Hanoi -  MALICA Training "Quality and coordination in Commodity chains", with the participation of Dr. F. Casabianca, INRA Phap: 30.09. The training counted with the participation of 25 researchers and professors from : FAVRI, CASRAD, IPSARD/ RUDEC,  IPSARD/ Rural institutions, IPSARD, HAU/ PTNT, HAU/ KTNN&CS, NIAS
  • 29.09.2010 - Hanoi - Meeting on "Quality management institutions : exchange of experiences betweenVietnam and France" with presentations by Dr. F. Casabianca, INRA Phap, and Dr. Thuan from NAFIQAD. Attending the meeting were leaders from varieties of organizations and Government authorities including Dr. Bo – president of VAAS, Dr. J.C. Maillard – Director of CIRAD, Dr. Kim Son –president of IPSARD, Dr. Binh-director of RUDEC, Dr. The Anh-director of CASRAD, and other representative from MOIT, Department of Crop production.

  • New publication "perspectives" for policy brief on Supper Chain in version of English and French by Cirad has been completed, the Vietnamese version is under its way.
  •  Malica Workshop on Food safety on 15 December, 2009 in La Thanh Hotel, 218 Doi Can rd., Hanoi, Vietnam
Food Safety is currently one of the burning issues catching the special attention of policy makers, researchers, producers and consumers. Food Safety is also a research priority of MALICA Research Consortium (Markets and Agriculture Linkages for Cities in Asia). In an aim to exchange viewpoints, study results regarding the issue of food safety management and to elicit feedbacks from the application of legislation serving the research and policy formulation, MALICA held the workshop on: “Food safety and impact on supply chains”.
The workshop welcomed many delegates from the State's agencies, research institutions, universities, NGOs, as well as delegates of local authorities and farmers.
Five out of many studies relating to food safety management were presented at the workshop and have received quite a few valuable suggestion and proposition from the participants.
The workshop successfully finished and the bodies/organizations are looked forward to contributing to the coming activites of MALICA.
