Training on the organisation of food safety control

The MALICA training session on setting up food safety control was held from September 18 to 20, 2007 at the Fruit and Vegetable Research Institute of the Vietnam Academy of Agricultural Sciences (FAVRI/VAAS).

This took place in a context where the sanitary quality of food is becoming a major concern for Vietnamese consumers and public/private officials. The participants came from member institutes of MALICA such as VAAS (with CASRAD and FAVRI), IPSARD (with RUDEC), the Hanoi Plant Protection Department, the Hanoi Department of Health, the Ha Tay Province Department of Agriculture and the Hanoi Agricultural University. MALICA invited experts from ECOCERT, the Perpignan Pesticide Analysis Centre, Bioglobal in New Zealand, along with management staff from RUDEC/IPSARD and the Hanoi Plant Protection Department and Department of Health to make presentations during the training session, in addition to CIRAD experts.

They presented theoretical background material and practical experiences on the respective role of the public and private sectors in the setting up of food safety control: vegetable safety control in Hanoi, participatory guarantee systems, individual and group certification, participatory design of production protocols, intra-chain control and certification, as well as setting up certification in France.
